Spokane Piano Studio - Discover the Gift of Music
Return to menu

Music has been in my life since my earliest memories in my childhood. My parents always motivated their children for arts and music. They noticed my interest for music so they enrolled me in violin lessons. But soon after, I felt in love with the piano! Through the years, however, I have experienced many barriers in pursuit of my love for music.

When I was a small child, I used to watch the musicians in my church, eyes wide with excitement. My sister was taking piano lessons at the time, and unbeknownst to my family, I secretly began teaching myself piano, hand-copying my sister's books, note for note. My mother discovered my secret piano music, and rather than punish me, as my child mind anticipated, she enrolled me in piano lessons. I loved to play the piano and progressed quickly. At the age of 13, I gave my debut solo recital at the University of Fortaleza, Brazil.

Also, I always felt a strong calling for teaching music. At the age of 15, I began sharing my knowledge of piano with others, opening a small studio in my home. In 2004, I received a music scholarship and moved to KY. After two years being in the U.S however, the tuition increases really put my musical studies in severe jeopardy. I had to take two jobs in addition to my teaching and college studies.

When I moved to Spokane, Washington, I had no piano, no entrance to college, and no employment. I felt it might be the end of my musical career. Despite these challenges, and thanks to a number of incredible people, such as Dr. Jody Graves, Kevin Rindlisbacher, the Spokane Music Teachers Association, and countless more, I have recently completed my Bachelors in Piano Performance at Eastern Washington University.

I have received awards and I have performed in master classes with world-renowned pianists, but none of this means more to me than waking up every day to pursue my love of piano music. I have overcome many challenges, and welcome the future challenges that life will bring to strengthen me as an artist and a person.

What People are Saying

Seven steps for success

As a piano teacher, I am absolutely committed to ensuring each and every student’s success, and the best way to achieve success in piano study is through correct and consistent practice habits. That’s why I recommend:

  1. Arranging a set time every day to practice. Assist your child in keeping the commitment to daily practice.
  2. Practice in a setting free from distractions like other siblings, or television programs.
  3. Ensure regular weekly attendance, on time, as this is essential for every student’s success.
  4. It’s easier to remember to bring all the correct music and materials to your lesson, if you have a consistent place to store these materials. And, remember to check your music notebook for directions from your teacher.
  5. A practice log is also helpful, particularly for helping children to learn responsible habits. Weekly progress can then be noted and rewarded by the parent.
  6. Written assignments are an important part of the instruction, and is part of our student policy, so please be sure to have each assignment done before the lesson.
  7. Finally, keep those nails short!

Student Responsibilities

  • Arrive on time for all lessons.
  • Arrange a set time every day to practice.
  • Practice in a setting free from distraction.
  • Make sure to bring all the correct music and materials to the lessons.
  • Keep a practice log with goals and weekly progress.
  • Check the music notebook for communication and directions from the teacher.
  • Make sure to finish all written assignments and to be prepared for each lesson.

Attendance

Regular weekly attendance at lessons and classes is essential for the student's success. Students are expected to arrive on time for the lessons and to be fully prepared each weekly lesson. Make-up lessons are only arranged if the student or parent has given a 24-hour notice prior the lesson.

Student Contract

Financial Responsibilities

Payment due dates.

The Piano Tuition is due on the 1st lesson of the month. Tuition is charged by the month, and are not lowered nor refunded for missed lessons. Please make checks payable to Aline Fletcher.

Make up lessons will be arranged accordingly with the instructor’s schedule availability. However, even if you DO NOT want a make-up lesson, your monthly tuition remains the same amount and your instructor is NOT responsible to give a discount on your tuition. For cancellations, please call 509-448-1040 and leave a message if I am not available.

Additional fees.

$10.00 extra fee will be charged if the student has NOT paid the piano tuition by the 10th of the month.

Throughout the year, purchase of assigned materials will be required for the lessons. Parents and adult students are responsible for the purchase of these materials.

A metronome is required, but it does not need to be purchased immediately. I will let you know when a metronome is necessary.

Arrange to have your piano tuned on a regular basis, at least twice a year.

A $25.00 Registration Fee is required from all students. This fee covers the use of any material from Aline Fletcher’s Music Library, such as sight-reading books, music scores, CDs, DVDs, use of computers and any other materials and/or equipment from the studio. Any borrowed material needs to be returned to the instructor and is not to be kept for more than three weeks. Charges will be applied if any of the material is lost or not replaced. Students must re-register every year.

Other Considerations

  • Parents are always welcome to stay for their child's lesson.
  • Please be considerate and do not interrupt the teacher and the other student who is receiving a lesson.
  • Any other considerations or concerns should be discussed directly with Aline Fletcher.
